Terrazas de los Andes has used its 45 years of experience in high elevation vineyards to carefully match each varietal to its ideal altitude
The gradually rising elevation of terraced plateaus from the city of Mendoza westward to the Andes Mountain Range creates a broad range
of vineyard microclimates, as temperature generally drops 0.8°C (1.44°F) for each 100 metre/328 foot ascent. Using elevation as a tool allows our winemakers to grow each varietal in the distinct climate that best suits fully ripened grapes, optimal sugar-acids balance, maximum aromatic expression and plush tannins.

Varietal   Characteristics   The ideal altitude
Chardonnay   Adapts well in cooler, high altitudes, which enhance its acidity, freshness, and delicate fruit palate.   At 1200 metres/3900 feet: Mountain-cooled climates with high thermal amplitude 16°C ( 61°F), result in mild summers and crisp, refreshing Chardonnays.
Malbec   Early fruiting and vigorous, with a meaty texture, alluring depth, and balanced acidity optimized by mild Andean conditions.   At 1067 metres/3500 feet: Moderate climates, sunny and dry, and thermal amplitude of 14°C ( 57°F) produce the world's best Malbecs, with exquisite violet, spices and berries.
Cabernet Sauvignion   Late blooming, with thick skins and firm tannins, it requires more heat to develop its fruity aromas.   At 980 metres/3200 feet: Warmer temperatures and lower thermal amplitude of 13°C ( 55°F) help bring out spicy, red fruit and plum notes in our Cabernets while moderating vegetal tones.
