Hervé Birnie‑Scott
Founder and Estate Director
Originally from France, Terrazas de los Andes’s Founder Hervé Birnie‑Scott grew up in the Loire Valley. After graduating with a degree in Agronomy Engineering and Winemaking, Hervé went on to become an expert in cool‑climate viticulture, working in locales such as Sancerre, Victoria, Tasmania, and Napa Valley. In 1991, he ventured to Argentina with Moët Hennessy on a project to search for high‑altitude vineyards in Mendoza. Hervé’s explorations led to the creation of Terrazas de los Andes, which released its first vintage in 1996.
From the late 1990s to 2008, Hervé held several different roles within Moët Hennessy based in Argentina and Europe, including Winemaking and Operations Director for the Chandon Estate; Operations Director for Moët & Chandon, Dom Perignon, Mercier, and Ruinart; and Technical Director for Estates & Wines in Toro, Spain. In 2009, he returned to Mendoza and to Terrazas de los Andes, where he continues his passion for the art of winemaking as Estate Director.
