Our Story
Our story began more than 30 years ago, when our visionary team recognized the unique potential of Mendoza and the majestic Andes, long before Argentina's oenological potential was recognized worldwide. With a bold vision and a firm conviction to create world-class fine wines, we ventured into the unexplored lands of the Andes in search of a refined varietal expression that could only be achieved on the cool, high-altitude terraces of Mendoza. It was in these places, where the sky and the earth meet in harmony, that Terrazas de los Andes was born. Since then, we have been constantly in search of perfection, exploring the limits of high-altitude viticulture and challenging established standards to create wines that are truly exceptional.
1895
A Century-Old Heritage
La Perla, located in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, was built by Sotero Arizu. A century later, Terrazas de los Andes would acquire this centennial winery to craft their fine mountain wines. Its structure embodies our past and future. Preserving and protecting this heritage, the winery has been equipped with modern, sustainable technology to ensure the quality of our wines.
1929
The Discovery of Las Compuertas
A Malbec vineyard of ungrafted vines was planted in Las Compuertas, Luján de Cuyo. More than 60 years would pass until Terrazas de los Andes team, exploring high-altitude lands, discovered it and immediately recognized its potential. Today, this vineyard yields naturally low. Perfectly adapted to its environment, favors concentration and elegance in its wines.
1991
1991-1995 - The Birth of Terrazas de los Andes
Terrazas de los Andes team recognized the potential of Mendoza and the Andes to craft fine mountain wines. They explore the terraces of a cool climate and high altitude in search of a refined varietal expression. It was there, where the earth meets the sky, that Terrazas de los Andes was born.
1993
Pioneering Innovation in Irrigation
To uncover the diversity of soils in Mendoza, the team was determined to continue exploring. Therefore, the implementation of an innovative irrigation system became essential to reach unexplored terrain. Thus, Terrazas de los Andes pioneered the implementation of drip irrigation, not only conserving water but also pushing the boundaries and exploring increasingly higher terraces.
1996
First Vintage of Reserva Malbec
After several years dedicated to perfecting viticulture, the first vintage of Reserva Malbec was crafted under the Terrazas de los Andes label in 1996 and introduced to the market in 1999. It embodied the new, modern, and elegant style.
2006
2006-2008 - Ascension journey
Our team embarked on an ascension journey, discovering, and acquiring lands that would contribute the elegance necessary for crafting our wines. After acquiring Las Compuertas, the team continued ascending acquiring vineyards in Mendoza's most renowned appellations: our Los Castaños Vineyard, nestled in Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley, at 1100 meters above sea level, was planted in 2006. Then came Licán Vineyard, planted in 2007, located in Los Chacayes, Uco Valley, at 1200 meters above sea level. Finally, our team reached to our El Espinillo Vineyard, planted in 2008 and cultivated at 1650 meters above sea level in the Gualtallary region. El Espinillo currently stands as the highest productive vineyard in the Uco Valley and the second highest in Mendoza, thus completing this extensive mosaic of high-altitude parcels.
